Hi All!!!! We've not been on the blog for ages and it's good to be back. As usual we've been very busy here at Makeover Mates and partying hard. We've been having a great time!

We've been asked a few times for the scarf decorating party that we started last winter so we've bought it back by popular demand. We can't bear to think of any of our girls cold during the winter so want to help you out in keeping warm. Please see details here . The other good news that we have to share with you is that our office is FINALLY being built after many delays and mind changes. Work will begin on Monday and we can't wait - it's nice to work from home but the idea of having separate office space and a clear and clutter free spare room seems heavenly. Friday is generally a busy day for the Makeover Mates making sure everything is in order for our weekends full of partying and today is no exception so I better be off. Back to school

Hi all! Well it's been a while since I wrote on the diary - I've been on holiday leaving Gemma in charge of the businesses and my house and cats. She's done a marvellous job of everything as usual so thanks Gem and thanks too to Leanne, Charlotte and Sam for working with her.

Me and my family went off down to South Wales for a Dr Who and Torchwood week - our son Dan (in pic with me) is mad on the shows and so we took him to the exhibitions and filming sites and we had a great time. I am a massive fan of David Tennant and was delighted to snuggle up to his suit in the exhibition!! We had a brilliant holiday and are now back to normal routine. Tom's back teaching, Dan's back at school and I'm back partying.

Hi all. Well as usual it is busy around here. Gem's been off on her summer hols to Crete and had lots of fun with her mates and is now back and ready to party. Dawn has been rocking and raving in Scotland in T in the Park. We've both been having fun and would like to say thanks to Michelle and Charlotte for standing in for us whilst we were away and doing a jolly good job as always.

We have another busy weekend coming up, for most kids this is the last week at school before summer holidays so no doubt they are all excited about that. We here at Makeover Mates like to be able to hold our parties in the garden whenever possible - of course in North Wales it's very hit and miss but we are flexible and play it by ear daily.

Summer's Coming

Hello all - well, summer is coming here in North Wales. We know this in two very typical ways - firstly, sometimes it is warm enough for us to party in the garden, secondly, sometimes it is raining so much that we have to run to take cover in people's houses! We have to leave the weather to science as usual but if it is nice and warm we are very happy to party in the garden with the girls. We've managed quite a few outside recently and it's always nice to have a change of environment. This weekend we've had to be indoors but we've had lovely parties as usual - chocolate fountains and high school musical flowing freely!!

This week Gemma is going to Crete so Michelle and Chaz will be stepping up for a week. Dawn is really looking forward to taking a break for T in the Park in a couple of weeks leaving Gemma at the helm, not only of the business but also of her son and cats! Hello all - we're sorry we haven't written an entry for a long while - as you can imagine we've been exceptionally busy.

As usual we're partying every day, summer holidays are coming up and we'll soon be filling up the summer months. A cheaper weekday rate will help our customers during the summer hols. It's been lovely weather here in North Wales mostly recently and we've been able to hold lots of parties in people's gardens (people who've got parties booked in obviously, not just random people!) , let's hope this continues over the summer months. We're off out now to do a party - nice and local today, only 2 mins down the road so that's great.

A quick word

Hello all. The subject of our blog today is slightly different to normal, it's not really about a subject that we've covered before. We wanted to make it known to some parents that some of the girls are finding us and trying to add us to their MSN chat contacts. On the first time it happened the 11 year old girl in question has the same name as a friend of mine so I added her to our list thinking it was my friend, she then proceeded to chat to me and I soon discovered who she was - a girl who had been a guest at one of our parties. On the same evening coincidentally, the same thing happened - another girl with the same name as a friend of mine also joined my list! I chatted a short while to the girls and told them that it wasn't a good idea for them to be chatting to someone that they didn't know very well. They couldn't see a problem with it and were surprised when I told them that I would take them off my list and they wouldn't be able to chat to me on MSN again. I have spent time trying hard to educate my son not to talk to strangers or people he doesn't know too well, in real life as well as on the computer, so although it was pleasant to chat to the girls and very harmless, I wanted them to understand that even though I was friendly and trustworthy it isn't a good idea to chat to everyone. One of the girls in particular seemed quite upset that I wouldn't chat to her and I felt really bad but feel that one rule should apply to all - I sent her a friendly email explaining my reasons. I also don't think it is very professional for Makeover Mates to have a list of children's contacts, we would hate to think that we were influencing them in any way. Initially I was confused as to how the kids were finding me on MSN then I realised that the email address I use for that purpose is a Makeover Mates email. I have since had a few more girls trying to get on my list - I think they're in a group - and I've rejected the request. I just want the girls and their parents to understand that my reasons for not chatting to the girls are purely professional and because I think it is the right thing to do. So girls - if you read this, please don't take it personally that I haven't added you!!! Take care, thank you, Dawn XX

Hello all - we've been a bit quiet on the blog at lately but that's because we're working hard at other things and having a good old organise! The good news is that it's nearly flip flop time and we can't wait!! We'll announce on the website as soon as they're ready.

Gemma has now taken over the job of manager of our Teddy Takeaway company so is getting to grips with that - if you are interested in a Teddy party please see here . Busy busy!

Hello - Gosh, I wish we had some time to chill out like our girls!! We are so busy at the moment as we are getting so many new bookings but even better we are getting so many rebookings from party girls who have held parties last year and the year before as well as many party guests booking their own parties. As well as all of our Makeover Mates parties we are holding lots of Teddy Takeaway parties and Sound Mates parties. Thanks to our great team - Michelle, Charlotte and Roger, our Sound Mates technician - we couldn't do it without you so a HUGE thank you for all of your work. What's so nice at the moment is that everywhere we go we seem to know people at the parties - that's cool by us (saves us from having to remember new names!). We're finding that a lot of our older girls who have held a Makeover Mates pamper or spa party are now booking a Sound Mates party. The Sound Mates parties are completely unique and so are very exciting for our party girls and also very exciting for us - it feels great to be developing a whole new great idea that is completely separate from what lots of other party companies are doing. What's also great is that our party girls know they are involved in something brand new and rise to the challenge so much better than we ever thought - a new Sound Mates website is soon to be in development so we can share tracks made and even have a chart of most requested tracks.

Our Makeover Mates parties are still getting more and more popular than ever - and we are gearing up for a record spring and summer. Look out for some great special offers and new party extras, they'll be on the site soon. We have had a lot of interest in our vacancy for a new person to join our team and are making sure that we find the perfect person - look out for Zoe - coming soon!!

Other News:

Office - our office to be built in Dawn's huge wilderness of a back garden is on order and the boys have started to build the foundations - it's all very exciting.
Dawn - has recently qualified and has begun counselling on the phones for ChildLine. It is a very interesting and challenging job which she is enjoying thoroughly.
Gemma - her hair has gone through many different stages and colours, she is enjoying managing Teddy Takeaway and will be looking forward to watching Big Brother this summer (which she auditioned for!)
Michelle - continues to grow her hairdressing business and is excited that it is as successful as it has been after leaving a secure job to go for it.
Charlotte - has been accepted to Bangor Uni on a teacher training course to start in September. We can't think of anyone more suited than her so the teaching profession will be lucky to have her - just so long as she works her butt off for us over the summer!!!

Sound Mates

Hi all. We just wanted to remind you that we also run a completely different style of Kids party. If you've not heard of Sound Mates yet please click here to see the website for more details. We have had a lot of interest in this party and have so far created a number of bands with the kids.

At a Sound Mates party the kids (age 11+) mix a track using our specialist equipment and then they can sing lyrics along to the song. We bring the song back to our studio and mix it to make a great C.d. for each member of the band. A band photo goes on the C.d. too. The kids get to choose thier own band name and individual nick names within the band - a few examples of bands we've already created are : The Teenage Monkeys, The Choc Chicks, The Groovy Girls, Star Heads! Hello all! Here at Makeover Mates we've had a very enjoyable Easter and hope you have too. As well as celebrating Easter we've also celebrated Dawn's birthday. Anyone who knows Dawn will know that she doesn't just have a birth day she has a birth week so the celebrations are spread out over a good few days. Any way - being a party expert she had a good few parties of her own and had a great time. The kids are all still off school so we are partying almost every day. Chaz has been working with Gem over the hols to give poor (old!) Dawn a good break so thanks Chaz, you do a brilliant job. Michelle, the other member of our team has had a rough Easter having had to have a wisdom tooth removed and having suffered quite a bad and very painful infection. Get well soon Midge, look on the bright side, at least you won't have been able to eat much chocolate!

It's that time again!

Hi all, I'd like to say hello and that I'm glad to be back after a long weekend away with friends. We had a wonderful time at the wedding and Gem and the girls did a great job at keeping the party girls happy whilst I was away having a blast, so it's good all round!

I would like to apologise once again if you tried to book a party for March but were unsucessful - we have been SO busy this month that it has been impossible for us to fit everyone in and we have had to turn away many parties which, as you can imagine, we really hate doing. The good news is that we are soon going to be splitting into teams and advertising for more staff so that we can manage to book everyone in. We are looking for a new van to join Daisy our Makeover Machine and so will very soon be growing our team and in turn expanding our area - Tom is in charge of the very important job of finding us a new vehicle - we hope he's better at that than taking phone messages (he does his best but we don't think he should apply for secretary job yet!).

One of the things that Makeover Mates is famous for is our unique and exclusive Flip Flop party which we've now managed to trademark (woohoo!) and we are bringing them back with a blast in the Spring. The girls LOVE this party - it seems to be the perfect combination - girls get to go to a party, have a Makeover AND take home a pair of shoes - what more could they want?! Hello all. I just wanted to say cheerio as I'm off away now for a long weekend to our friend's wedding. Hopefully we'll have a jolly good knees up - to be fair, if anyone knows how to party we do! I've had a new hair do, a manicure and pedicure, a tan and 3 (yes 3!) new outfits so I feel like a new woman. However, I'm always working and booked in 2 parties whilst at the nail salon and came out to find a man who runs a limosine company across the road from the salon waiting to do a deal with me. Hello all. Well, Easter is rapidly coming upon us and we are having such a busy time of things that this year has already been a bit of a blur. We are doing our best to offer everyone the party dates they want despite having little room left this March to fit everyone in. There are dates this month that we could have booked over and over and we apologise if anyone's been disappointed.

I am looking forward to a long weekend off this coming weekend and am leaving Makeover Mates in the very capable hands of Gem who will be working with Charlotte and Michelle. I am off to the wedding of some very close friends - I can't wait, even if it has been forcast snow in the Peak District where the wedding is to be held. Hubby Tom is to be best man at the wedding which means there is all the more reason for me to have a posh new outfit so Gem and I are hitting the shops tomorrow to find me something fabulous to wear. Gem is having her first go at driving our Makeover Mates van tomorrow after we recently got it insured for her to drive so she's going to be driving me to the shops. It's going to be a bit different for her driving the van as opposed to driving her little mini mouse! I'll hold on tight.

New party in development

Hello all. As usual we have lots going on here at Makeover Mates behind the scenes. Currently we are developing 2 new projects - the first we've talked about a lot and that is Sound Mates which is almost ready for relaunch with the involvement of our technical expert Roger Hughes.

We are working too on a new Hair Makeover party. We have lost count of the amount of requests we've had for this party so decided that it was about time we gave our customers what they were requesting. So, we are working away to develop our hair and makeover party. We've put a bit of info on the website which at the moment can be found here . Get the Boat!

Here's me - safe thanks goodness after my lovely hubby Tom nearly washed us all away by flooding the house. It's a strange sensation stepping out of the bedroom, half asleep, into a freezing cold puddle up to your ankles!

So that's been our half term really - trying to sort out the soaked house whilst having our busiest week ever of parties. Luckily none of our work stuff got drenched as our office area is currently at the opposite end of the room to where the flood came into the lounge. So, it's been hectic to say the least with one more party to go today before a nice quiet day tomorrow. I'm off now - just wanted everyone to know that we're all ok! A funny old week!

Well, hello. It's been a funny old week here at Makeover Mates HQ! Nothing is ever quiet for us, or ever straight forward for that matter. As well as partying constantly we've had new business partnerships forged, a crazy lap top, a new office space and a new party being developed. We never knew there were so many hours in the day. Our lap top, from which our whole business is run decided to take on a mind of it's own, had to go to lap top hospital to be fixed. That meant we nearly lost all access to our all important documents and contacts until Tom (the ever supportive husband / IT expert) managed to transfer all our info on to a spare computer. It's been a particularly tricky time as the old computer was from the dark ages and had a mind of it's own. However, we've managed to muddle through, just about, and our ever faithful lap top is now back and, fingers crossed seems to be back to normal. As mentioned in our previous post we've forged a very exciting partnership with Conwy County Borough Council leisure department and we are really looking forward to working with them.

Sound Mates - We also run a company called Sound Mates and we've taken on board a new business partner, a very good friend of Dawn's, called Roger Hughes who is a massive name in the local music industry here in North Wales. Roger is a very well respected musician and events organiser (and for extra info Dawn used to sing in his band!) who has come on board with us as creative controller of our fab Sound Mates project. The pic above is one of the covers of a C.D we've already produced at a Sound Mates party.

Makeover Mates - One of our part time Makeover Mates (and Dawn's best friend since the age of 4!) has been bought on board to use her talents as a fabulous hairdresser and a new party is now in development, to be launched in March. The party is to consist of a Makeover and choice of Hairstyle for the party girls - how fab is that!

New Office - Here at Makeover Mates HQ we get pretty short of space now that we are jam packed with bookings. Currently the lounge is the office and the spare room is the stock room and we've decided that we've outgrown our space (we've only got a little house!). After many deliberations about renting office space etc we've decided to build an office here in the back garden. Our back garden is a huge space and so we've put in place plans to build a self contained office in the back of the house from which we can run Makeover Mates, Sound Mates and Teddy Takeaway. Tom is going to be building the office as soon as possible. It will be just great and we can't wait to have our own working space away from the house.

Teddy Takeaway - Our Teddy Takeaway parties seem to have taken on a life of their own and we haven't even advertised them! Every week we are holding bear making parties - Gem loves all of the parties we do but these bear making parties are her absolute favourite! I think when the time comes she will be happy to take over all control of these parties. So many thanks have to go to Pippa and Jane from Be My Bear who are lovely ladies, run a fab business here in Llandudno and are sooo supportive of us - thanks to you both.

One final comment we think should come from one of our party guests who was with us at the weekend (and has since booked). Here's what she emailed to us in her own words -

"hi girls i know you did sophie's party and i loved it so i would like 1. it will probably be in may. and i will probably have 8 girls. i was wondering weather the pamper princess party is a lot different to the spa party. if it is i know i'm only 9 but if i could please could i have a spa party because it was ace and i've got to say it was better than than the girls just wanna have fun, love hannah."

I'm all excited!

Hello all - well, I've just come home from a very important meeting and I'm REALLY excited - I don't get excited very often, normally I'm a very cool, calm and collected character but just to let you know that Makeover Mates have just been given a very important contract! We've just been contracted by the local council, Conwy County Borough Council to be one of their play scheme providers this summer at all leisure centres across Conwy County. Our job is offer them pampering sessions and makeovers and also to do craft activities with the younger girls. This is within the programme that our council have, whereby they want to teach girls to look after themselves, not only by keeping fit but also by taking care of themselves and boosting self esteem. I am SO pleased to be given this opportunity - not only for the girls, because I think they'll love it - but for Makeover Mates too. To me it's a huge recognition of what we've achieved as a business since our beginnings. Also the advertising involved (all paid for by the council) is massive. The brochures are going in to schools, supermarkets, newspapers and many other places - all at NO charge to us and that means loads more girls will get to know about us ....... Hello all! We just wanted to say a quick hello before we get on with another busy day running our Makeover Mates empire. Gemma is now back home after a very wild party weekend in Newcastle. She's come back with a twinkle in her eye, a brand new funky hair cut and a new found love of soul dancing (!) - she's back and ready to party!!! We've both had a bit of a makeover as I too have had a funky new look thanks to Michelle. I have lots of lovely blonde in my hair and a very cool, shaped, long bob so I'm chuffed to bits - check out Michelle's website that I'm making for her if you are interested in contacting her for a mobile hair appointment (front page only at the moment, it's a work in progress). Both Gemma and I both want to say a HUGE thank you to Michelle for standing in over the weekend - I think she's enjoyed the parties more than the kids and I really enjoyed working with her (not too keen on the chip in the back door of the van though Michelle). Hi all - I just wanted to say 'have a great weekend little sis' to Gem. It's her birthday shortly and she's going off for a wild weekend to Newcastle with her mates to celebrate. Knowing Gem it will probably be rather a crazy old time - Go Party Girl! These girls pictured here remind me of the great bond that Gem and I have - she means the world to me and so I'd like to publicly wish her the BEST BIRTHDAY EVER!! I'd like to quote my ever loving sister who once said to me (under the influence of a glass or two of wine) 'I love you sooooo much sis, you're my sister and my best friend all rolled in to 2!!'

As Gemma is going to be off for a few days Michelle will be standing in for her and working with me and I'm looking forward to working with her. I am in the process of designing a new website for Michelle's business and I have to be honest and say that she drove me CRAZY today, sitting with me whilst I was designing the template - it took her the first 2 hours to choose the colour scheme, then the next 2 hours to look for a picture of a leaf (yes - a leaf) and then the same all over again when she decided that she didn't like the original colour scheme!! I never thought I'd say this but I was so relieved to see her leave!!! SORRY MICHELLE!! We hope you've all had a very lovely Christmas. We have been having a great time here as usual with lots of parties - both Makeover Mates parties and family gatherings. I spent the most lovely Christmas Eve I've ever had just pottering here at home, baking and wrapping pressies with family and friends dropping by. Then in the evening we all popped around to Makeover Mate Michelle's house to wait for Christmas day to arrive. Christmas morning was lovely and I had some lovely pressies as did Dan and Tom -I think I won some wife brownie points by buying Tom a Playstation 3 - his jaw hit the ground when he opened it and he's not taken his eyes off it since! I cooked Christmas dinner for the first time ever at our house and it must have been good because my dad said "same time next year Dawn!". We then all went around visiting family and ended up in my elder brother's house playing games and I must admit that I got a bit Christmas merry! It really was a lovely Christmas day. Boxing day was a quiet affair on the couch with choccies and then back to partying. We've got another busy weekend coming up and then Dad's 60th birthday to celebrate on New Years Eve so that will be a good old bash too. Good job I'm addicted to partying. I'll bet all of you are busy getting organised for Christmas, it's such a busy time for everyone. We're putting our tree up later on this evening at Makeover Mates HQ (i.e. Dawn's house). Nosey old Gemma can't help getting involved so she's going to help us and then do her own tomorrow night. We've been partying everyday and are now right up until Christmas so not quite sure yet when we'll be able to chill out by the tree. It looks so pretty too when it's up. Hi all. You may like to know that after a very rough 2 weeks I am back to normal (or whatever that is) and feel ready to take on the world again. I have been almost out of action for the past couple of weeks. Today I have put a couple of new offers on the website. Our December party offer has been running for a while now and has proved to be popular, free Christmas gifts for party girl and her guests at December Makeover Mates parties. We now have 2 more offers running, they are :

I've been very quiet

Hello all. Well I've been very quiet this past week in more ways than one. I have had a terrible dose of the flu to the point that I haven't been able to get out of bed on some days. I haven't been able to speak on the phone to customers as not only did I not feel up to speaking to anyone but I completely lost my voice - much to Tom and Dan's delight! Bless them both for the way they've looked after me and for the way they've both acted as my secretary. Daniel is very efficient, Tom is almost a complete shambles unfortunately! I would like to say thank you to them both and also to Makeover Mate Charlotte for stepping in last minute at the weekend to take over from me. I feel this afternoon that I may very well be on the mend, I hope so anyway as we've got another busy weekend of partying ahead of us and so I need to be fully better for tomorrow (quite a tall order I think!). Sound Mates Play!

Hi all - well we've been having a busy week again around here. We've had a quiet couple of days as regards partying but we've busily been working behind the scenes organising and playing with our Sound Mates equipment. It is SO much fun and believe me, for a woman who's only regret in life is that she wasn't a massive rock star, it's a dream come true! We wouldn't have managed to sort out all of the technical aspect of the party without lovely hubby Tom organising it and showing me, so many thanks to him for that. Myself and part time Makeover Mate Michelle have had so much fun today testing out the equipment - she came here for a cup of tea with me and played with the recording equipment from the minute she arrived to the minute she left! If I wasn't such a lovely friend I would post the photos I took of her recording and the track she made with her rapping on (yes, Michelle was rapping!) to the website but I think it's for company ears only - maybe I can blackmail her with it in the future .......... Any how, this evening my lounge looks like a cool recording studio so that's good and I've made myself a brill rave track. I think the girls are going to LOVE the party at the weekend if they have half the fun that we've had here! Oh, I can't hang on to this gem of a pic so here's Michelle, woofer and microphone for ya! Getting lost again!

Just to remind people that we have a 10% off offer on our Braids and Beads party at the moment when booked in November - this offer will only be on until the end of the week and then we'll have a fab new offer on for December, and can you believe, January 2008! We are still VERY busy and it's great fun. We thought we'd sorted out our getting lost problem once and for all with our fab sat nav - however, the system failed us last night. The weather here in North Wales was truly disgusting last night and it was lashing down cold rain - ugh! Off we went to our party booked at 5pm and followed the sat nav - to nowhere - yes, it took us to somewhere were there weren't even any houses! Never mind we thought, we'll phone the Party Girl's mum - however, as sometimes happens in more rural areas our mobile phones had no signal. As luck would have it I spotted a good, old fashioned phone box and happened to have a pocket full of change so I hopped out of the van (in freezing rain) enthusiastically only to be greated by a broken telephone! So, we were in the middle of nowhere, with a broken phonebox and a dodgy sat nav signal and we had 15 mins to go before we were starting the party. I just decided to drive around the area randomly in the hope that something amazing would happen and then in the distance Gemma spotted a lone pink balloon (she's well trained in such activities!) and believe it or not it was the Party Girl's house with 1 balloon tied to, and desperately clinging in the wind to, the front door. The party went off without a hitch and as the girls were still eating as we arrived the fact that we were slightly late went unnoticed. Another batch of fleece scarfs were designed too so all in all a great time was had by all. We're off later to make TShirts with the girls in a party in Bethesda - my, we do get around ........ Before I go we just want to say:

Hello and Happy Monday to all! We've had a very busy weekend once again here at Makeover Mates. Gemma has been working so hard that she deserved a lovely weekend away so she went off to stay with one of her friends in Uni and our party time Makeover Mate Charlotte worked with me. random stuff!

Hi all. Just to begin by saying that our Braids and Beads party has a 10% discount when booked this November - it's a great little party with bead jewellery making as well as a groovy makeover (and don't forget the footspas!).

If I seem a little random this morning it's because I'm jiggered and no, unfortunately it's not because I've been burning the candle at both ends, I WISH! It's more to do with the fact that Dan (my scrummy son) had a Hallow'een party and sleepover last night and the kids - 5 in total - didn't get much sleep if any at all! Consequently they kept me awake all night with their music and nattering and so I'm bushwacked. The house opposite us also had a wild party which went on half way through the night, now I don't mind a wild party as any one who knows me will testify but I hate a wild party where I can't attend (Due to being responsible for 4 of my son's friends). I spent half the night looking longingly out of my bedroom window at the revellers across the road!! Lots of new teddy bears being born

Hi all - we've had a very busy few weeks and what is quite exciting is that our Teddy Bear making Design and Makeover party has become very popular so Gemma and myself have been playing midwife to many a bear! It is kind of odd the way the bear starts off just as a furry bit of fabric and starts to develop a little personality as it is stuffed. If that sounds crazy I'm sorry but it's true and party girl Georgia's granny said so too yesterday so I'm not alone in that thought! Not only do I love the process of making the bears but I love listening to the girls as they fill out the birth certificates - I am always intrigued by how they come to choose the name of their little new friend. I also love to see the bears waiting together to be taken home to a new family and I always have a quick word with the bears before I leave and tell them that they have to take care of their new owner. Yes, I have gone loopy - well, maybe not, I've always been like this! Monday night means only one thing in our family at the moment and that is waiting for Polly on Dragon's Den. We've already had the "She's definately on tonight" phone call so we'll see ........ love Dawn xx Update - well, I usually go to my YOGA session on a Monday afternoon but rearranged it today due to half term Makeover Mates parties so went this evening instead - guess what?? ........ I missed Polly on Dragon's Den, that means everyone else saw it but me! Never mind - she turned down the Dragon's offer of investment and has since managed to secure loads of contracts for her products and is doing v.well thank you! GO POLLY!!

Hi all - well, our Monday nights are currently based around the T.V. as we have a family member who is on this series of Dragon's Den. One of my sisters in law, Polly, was filmed in the Den a few months ago and the results are due to be broadcast any week now. We are all awaiting her appearence on the show (we already know the outcome and it won't stop our excitement at seeing Polly on the box), texts are sent around family and friends each Monday now and my mother in law phones frantically EVERY Monday tea time declaring - "Polly's definately on tonight" - and so far she hasn't been so we'll keep on waiting ........

The latest good news in our family is that my lovely hubby Tom, the tall one in the pic (!) has been made Head of Centre which basically means he is going to be Headmaster of his school which is a school for kids with behavioural problems - I am SO proud - well done Tom xxx The next bit of good news is that I've passed my interview to become a counsellor for ChildLine - it's something I've been wanting to do for such a long time now and I'm so chuffed to have been accepted. Oh - and if you want news on some other members of the family, Rocco the cat pulled all of the stuffing out of his toy tiger, Taid's off to Australia on Wednesday (yes, at the grand old age of 90!) and Gem's got a fab brand new mini which she's appropriately named 'Mouse'. Busy, busy, busy

Oh my goodness, we're so busy it's brilliant. We've been all over the place this weekend from the Wirral to Wrexham and Anglesey and some local ones in between! Our little van has certainly clocked up some miles - especially yesterday when I was frustrated by the traffic and decided to take a short cut which ended with us having an hour and a half detour. It was the end of the day - we were both jiggered - and we ended up stranded up in a car park in the rural Welsh hills - we were only trying to come home from Amlwch! We met some lovely sheep on our detour though. We're off to Mold today to party and the journey should be more straightforward - honestly Gem (x). As well as partying hard over the weekend we were taking party bookings from people taking advantage of our yummy choc fountain offer, so pretty hectic but good fun - we never fail to have a laugh together at the parties, and on our travels, and we think we enjoy the parties as much as the girls. We've got pom poms and rhinestones and sequins and allsorts of glittzey stuff. The fleece is sooo soft you could go to sleep in it! It's October Already

Woohoo! It's October - I LOVE October. Two great things happen this month. The first and by far the best thing that happens this month is my son Dan's birthday and he'll be 14 (my goodness I'm getting very old!). The second great thing to happen for me in October is Hallow'een. When I was a little kiddo I loved Hallow'een probably even more than I loved Christmas - that's wierd for a kid I suppose but I just loved to stare up at the moon looking for witches on broomsticks and I loved (and still do) the smell of candles burning in pumpkins. Now my favourite tale goes that when we were kids me, my brothers and my friends all used to go off Trick or Treating and pumpkins weren't readily available here in Wales in those days (gosh how old do I sound?). We used to use swedes to make our laterns out of and sometimes - and this is no joke - we used to use potatoes! POTATOES! It sounds impossible I know but it's very true! I still love Hallow'een and now that my Dan is getting too old for Trick or Treating (because of course I used to do with him and his friends) I need to find another group of small children who will let me go Trick or Treating with them!! - the fabulous part of Hallow'een is that Bonfire Night is only 5 days off - pure heaven. This year we are having a cool Hallow'een party here at home - I just love to party as you know so I'm already planning the party.

Hi - well if you haven't already spotted on our website we have introduced a new design element to our design and makeover party FLEECE SCARFS to decorate. Mum (who is our material advisor!!!) and I went off to Abakhan, a huge material warehouse here in North Wales and bought some lovely soft, warm fleece material. We chose three great colours Blue, Pink and Red. To decorate them we've got some letters, feathers, loads of different sequins, snowflake and star transfers along with flower and butterfly transfers and I've just ordered some very pretty multi coloured rhinestones for a bit of extra glitz! We really snazzing up the girls of North Wales this winter along with keeping them warm. Hi all - well here at Makeover Mates we are taking delivery of new stuff constantly to improve our already fab parties even more. We have become close friends with the post lady recently as we take all of our extra deliveries. We have taken delivery of a large batch of very groovy temporary tattoos - example picture above. We've never used temporary tattoos at our parties before but have had a large amount of requests for them so due to customer demand we've put them in to our design and makeover party.

We have bought some lovely new, fresh blue gingham protective covers for floors and tables which make the party room look really pretty. Our poor old flowery ones gave up in the end and have retired to the spare room! We hope you agree that the new blue ones are very cute.

We've bought some great colourful fleece material and are now offering Scarf Design at our Makeover and Design party - girls can decorate scarfs with glitter paints, beads and sequins! Lovely and warm for the winter - Cosy!

This is Gem's favourite delivery - a fab Light Up Drinks Fountain! When it arrived yesterday she made me set it up on the kitchen work top (or should I admit that my son Dan set it up for

us! - it's handy having a teenage son) and test it out and when it got dark we had to turn all the lights off and test the glow on the lighted base. I am so pleased that we've got one as I've wanted one for Makeover Mates for ages. I'm sure our Party Girls are going to LOVE it! It looks very effective I must say and mum likes it too, she's already booked it for Dad's 60th party.

Make Up - we've taken delivery of a large batch of new make up from one of our favourite make up companies, Barry M. Lots of lovely sparkley make up and pretty new nail varnishes too. And while we are on the subject of nail varnish - why oh why don't the nail varnish companies make the brush long enough to reach the bottom of the bottle - I get so wound up having to throw away half used bottles of nail varnish - it's so uneconomical, not only for us as a company but also for the environment - all those little glass bottles going to waste!! There you go, I've had my rant.

I am so sad tonight to hear about the death of Dame Anita Roddick. As a young teenager, when I first became aware of the Body Shop, I was just absolutely fascinated and would often pop in to the shop - not just to buy my little bottles of products (remember when Body Shop used to sell creams in bottles of different sizes?) but to read the slogans that were written on the wall or to sign the latest petition that was on the counter. Everything about the principles of the Body Shop and therefore Anita Roddick struck a chord with me as a teenager and I truly believe that those principles have stayed with me to this day. She inspired me to learn about human rights and join Amnesty International - I am still a member 20 years on, through the Body Shop she taught me about animal experimentation for cosmetic purposes and how inhumane it is. I always admired the 'off the wall' approach that helped her shape and make a huge success of the Body Shop and the way she stuck to her principles when the going got tough and the Body Shop went through a slump in popularity only to come back bigger and stronger than ever. In recent years I worked for the Body Shop, first as a Body Shop @ Home consultant and then instore when I was asked to help out in the shop over a busy period. Did you know that when you work in a Body Shop store your induction begins with watching a human rights and environmental video / DVD? - that's quite an unusual induction to a workplace! It was at the Body Shop where I did my make up training and even though it was only for a short time I was proud to be part of the Body Shop team and what it stood for. I have admired Anita for a very long time, not only as a campaigner but as a business woman who carved out her own way of doing things and helped to inspire many other women who have gone on to begin and run their own business ventures. What a busy weekend we're having ......

Hi all! - well we are having a busy weekend once again. We have been having so much fun and so have our party girls and their guests. This weekend so far we have done pampered princess parties, spa parties and t shirt design makeover parties and have got a spa party and a t shirt design makeover party left to do. Our party girls and guests ages have ranged from 4 - 15 so quite a wide age range too. We are serving up Pink Cocktail after Pink Cocktail and our Chocolate Fountains have been twirling non stop. Also our karaoke machine is working flat out to cope with the demand from all of the High School Musical fans out there who like to sing along with the stars of the movie. Gem and me now know the words to every single song from the sound track, are just starting to learn the words from High School Musical 2 and we are both thinking of auditioning for a part in High School Mucical 3 we've got so good at the words from the first one!

Just this last week we've visited Llandudno, Chester, Wrexham, Widnes, Prenton, then Wrexham again, Rhyl, the Wirral, and back to Wrexham, Mold and Colwyn Bay so quite some mileage done by the makeover machine! We're glad Daisy the Makeover Machine (as named by visitors to our website in a special poll) enjoys travelling as much as we do. Gem and me have SO much fun on our travels - we never fail to find things that make us laugh and smile - our travels and well as our job are a joy!

Rocco the cat is in BIG trouble!

For those of you who don't know, this little fella here is my little cat Rocco, chosen for me a year ago by my lovely sister and fellow Makeover Mate Gemma. He's a very unusual and mischeivious cat (just like my sister!). Today here in my home office he is in very BIG trouble as he has been extremely naughty and has thrown my printer, the whole thing, on to the floor and completely smashed the thing in two. He's in BIG trouble I can tell you! What makes daddy long legs so appealing and yummy to him anyway?Now I've got to go out to buy a new one, printer that is not cat! See you x

Hi all ! Last night we held our first teddy bear Design and Makeover party in Llandegfan on Anglesey. This is party girl Becky with her new bear which she decided to call Champ. The girls had a lovely time and all made their bears together before being thoroughly pampered and enjoying a lovely buffet and fab chocolate fountain.

New Foot Spas

Hello there all. Isn't it lovely here in North Wales now the weather has cheered up a lot. We're holding a Makeover Mates party here in Deganwy today and are even daring to hope that we can do it out in the Party Girl's garden. That would be so lovely.

Well, as the title of our diary entry today suggests we've bought some new foot spas today and they are FAB! They look so state of the art that I first thought I'd unwrapped a spaceship instead. The girls are going to have a field day with all of the knobs and roller balls attached, if they are spaceships hopefully they won't take off with the girls in them!!! Even though we are very used to using footspas regularly I thought I'd have a quick look at the instructions for these new ones. As I was reading through the do's and don'ts I was tickled to find one of the safety instructions which said "DON'T USE UNDERNEATH A PILLOW" !!! Why would you do that?? And the more I've thought about it the more confused I become and I keep picturing our Party Girls sat with their feet in the foot spas with pillows on their heads. I think I need psychological help.

If Dan and I are at a loose end here every so often, we will do an online search for 'rediculous laws' (yes, I lead a very exciting life) and my favourite ever law is that IT IS ILLEGAL FOR A HORSE TO BE SEEN WEARING A SWIMMING COSTUME IN THE MAIN STREET - of one American state!!! I love it. Classic. Try the search, it's really funny.

A busier than expected summer holiday

Hi All! Hope all you kids are having a great summer holiday so far even though the weather has mostly been rubbish here in North Wales. We had a lovely treat here when we went to the movies last night to see the latest Harry Potter film. It was hubby Tom's birthday and that's how he wanted to spend the evening - I quite enjoyed it actually, it was good fun. Next on the list is the Simpsons movie - our son Dan is a huge Simpsons fan and has been looking forward to this movie for ages now.

We here at Makeover Mates have been partying like crazy lately which has been fab and we've taken bookings for our new Teddy making parties. We expected a quieter summer holidays thinking that lots of people would be on holiday but it hasn't quite turned out like that, in fact partying seems to be the thing to do this summer!! A busy Father's Day

Hi all - we've just spent another jam packed weekend at Makeover Mates which has been great fun. In between it all I managed to have a walk around the beautiful Betws y Coed with my lovely hubby Tom. I can't quite get interested in climbing and mountain gear though in all of the outdoor shops I had to endure and don't understand why no one makes it with any glitter on - now I know it has to be practical, but come on, there wouldn't be anything wrong with a bit of glitter on a rucksack and a few shiny sequins on a climbing rope now would there? Is it just me or are all of those things just bland. I'm sure I'd have given climbing a go at some point if the gear was groovy! I did learn to snowboard last winter and picked it up a treat - what attracted me to snowboarding is actually the fact that boards are available in a rainbow of colours and sporting the most fab artwork. Also, as well as making snowboarding suits in a huge combination of colours I can also buy a beanie hat that suits my complexion. Not sure where that rant came from as it was lovely as usual in Betws y Coed!

Friday's usually our busiest day

Hi all and welcome to another busy day at Makeover Mates. Here in our Makeover Mates 'office' it's usually a hive of activity on a Friday and today is no different. The reason is obvious, even though we hold some parties during the week (cheaper week day rate at £13.00 per head) as you can imagine most of our parties are held at the weekend. Friday is full of party bags, birthday cakes, chocolate and cocktail glasses for us, sorting out ready for a busy time. We love it so I'm looking forward to my day today which will be finished off nicely with a lovely Pampered Princess Party after school.

Hi all! We have a rare Sunday afternoon off today and I'm making the most of my afternoon off by doing some gardening with my son Dan. I really dislike gardening and somehow we've ended up with a huge back garden which is very hard to control - I'm sure we're going to find some wild safari animals out there. On a separate note , Gem and I are working on a new project (I don't know where we find the time!). We've had a very busy weekend, we've had lots and lots of fun and have once again met great girls along the way and welcomed some lovely girls in to our club. There are certainly some great fashion designers in the making here in Wales - move over Stella McCartney the Welsh girls are coming!

We're having a trip out this evening here in Deganwy to see The Pirates of the Carribean in the cinema - hope it's good as I've heard mixed reviews - never mind, if it's not, as long as the popcorn's good I'm happy.

Hi All - gosh we're busy! As well as partying hard last week and last weekend we are fully booked this weekend coming up - each party will be different this weekend. Some weeks we can be fully booked with pamper and spa parties for example but this week we are fully booked with 1 flip flop party, 1 t shirt party, 1 bag design party plus 1 spa party, 1 braids and beads party and 1 pampered princess party! That's the first time that's it's turned out that we have one of each party to do. As well as that I am excited as we've got a Dr Who cake to have made (oh how I would love to have a trip in the Tardis!)

Gem is excited for a completely different reason - those of you who have already met her will know that she is a huge Liverpool FC fan and so can imagine how excited she is about the European Cup game tomorrow night in Athens. Please Liverpool win!!!

Here at Makeover Mates we have some exciting developments going on behind the scenes (we usually have) - look out for a VERY cool new side to our company being launched sometime in June / July which we believe has never been done before. Let's just say that Gem and I will be seen in a whole new light and even though we are talented girls at the moment, you haven't seen anything yet!!!! Makeover Mates visit Ty Gobaith hospice for children

Hi - this morning I have been to visit Ty Gobaith children's hospice which is the charity that Makeover Mates supports and helps to raise funds for. I've never been in to a hospice for children before and must admit to being very nervous beforehand. The hospice has a lovely homely atmosphere, very calm and peaceful with amazing views over the Conwy Valley and I was struck by a feeling of warmth and positiveness.

Did you know that the hospice has to raise £1,000,000 each year just to keep it's doors open and of that £1,000,000 only 3 % comes from the government. This means that the fundraising team has a very big job to do as you can imagine. We help by donating to Ty Gobaith from each party we hold. We do this in the form of a monthly donation at the end of each month when we total how many parties we've held that particular month. We are very proud of our association with the hospice and like to think that by donating from our parties that children are helping children.

Great Flip Flops

Hi - we just wanted to show you an example of some of the gorgeous FLIP FLOPS that our party girls make. These ones in particular were made by a lovely Party Girl called Catrin and you can see that she's done a fab job with the feathers down one side and pretty flower shaped sequins on the other, finished off with some lovely pink glitter. We may have a footwear designer in the making here in North Wales.

First Flip Flop party of the year!

Hi - we are really looking forward to this evening when we will be holding our first FLIP FLOP decorating party of the spring / summer season. These parties are great fun and never fail to bring a smile to our faces especially when the girls decide to decorate the Left and Right flip flop completely different so they don't make a pair - how unique! New Birthday Cakes

Hi all. Hope everyone's having a great Bank Holiday weekend. It's jam packed here around the Llandudno area with the Victorian Extravaganza taking place - I even had a parade of unusual vehicles passing my house before. I nearly got caught up in them in our van - which reminded me of the year our brother Lee actually did get caught up in the parade in the Charles Price and Son and Grandson vehicle (which is our dad and Lee's building company). He couldn't get out of the flow, as all of the side roads were closed, and he had to travel the whole parade with all the onlookers waving at him and probably wondering how his modern van was around in the Victorian times!

Anyhow, I have come off the point of my diary entry which was to introduce our new type of cakes - see Lily Allen cake pictured. We can now have a cake printed with ANY picture the party girl would like. We can still do our Party Girl picture cake too but now we can also offer

Hi everyone - it is a special day for us today as it is our FIRST birthday - we are a whole one year old. Hello - well, we here at Makeover Mates have had a busy week planning the newest part of our venture. We have launched a shop which is currently to be found at www.makeovermates.com although it is soon to become an integrated part of this site. Currently we can only sell to the U.K through our site but in a couple of weeks we are going international!! Our new party kits are to cater for the many people who have enquired about our parties but unfortunately don't live in the area we service. We are selling Makeover Mates Party Kits in a box - check them out! The boxes cater for 10 girls and work out as a very economical way to hold one of our brilliant parties. Our boxes hold:

I'm back!

Hello everyone - just to say that I'm back from a wonderful trip to Cornwall. I had a lovely time with my hubby and have come back well and truly ready to PARTY. I have to say a huge thank you to Gemma for taking charge of the 'Empire' and also a big thanks to mum who makes a fabulous secretary. Thank you too to Chaz who worked with Gemma at the parties I couldn't attend, I've heard you were brill Chaz so you've got a job for life as far as I'm concerned (although we still don't want Man U to win the cup - c'mon Watford). All these thanks, it's like the Makeover Mates Oscars!

I really enjoyed my break but couldn't wait to come home to see everyone and of course, I especially missed my wonderful son Dan who stayed at home with his grandparents.

I made the most of some free time, so whilst Tom was surfing, I sat in the sand dunes of Cornwall (weather was amazing) making plans for the future of Makeover Mates - there are some interesting developments about to happen in the next month or so - watch this space!........

I must be boring cause when I got home I actually got excited when I saw my work diary!!! Any how - off for tea now, Tom's buying us all a takeaway - YUMMY.

Hi all - an unusual choice of picture today for a girl's party company but I just love it and wanted to show it as I'm proud we live in such a beautiful area. My hubby Tom took this picture a couple of days ago here in North Wales whilst out walking with his dad. Isn't it stunning? We here at Makeover Mates wanted to say Happy Easter to everyone, hope you all get some scrummy eggs and remember not to eat them all at once. We've got a quiet weekend as a lot of people have either gone away or are having family time. We've got a party this afternoon and are travelling to Eastham on the Wirral - we can't wait, it's going to be a wonderful chilled out pamper party. (please Daisy don't get lost!). Then of course it's Easter Sunday tomorrow so it'll be a quiet day for us here in Deganwy, a lovely family meal and Danny happily munching his way through his choccy eggs - bliss! Have a good time. Happy Monday

Hi all - well we've had a very good weekend again with lots of fun and pampering - we've met some lovely girls this weekend as usual. We've made some very funky tshirts - the girls always impress us with their creativity. We've seen some very funky dance moves and heard some wonderful singing and we've created some very beautiful make up looks.

We are ashamed to say that we got very badly lost again on Saturday - first time in ages - however, we did eventually find our way and the party started on time. Daisy was obviously having a naughty weekend as she also managed to get filthy dirty as well as getting us lost (I'll just explain to those who don't know that Daisy is our van - see her in Party Pictures section of the website). The positive side of our getting lost is that we will soon be in posession of a Sat Nav and should never ever get lost again - we'll see!!

The schools are all off for the Easter holidays and you kids should be having a great time - the weather is beautiful here in Deganwy today, let's hope it'll last through the next couple of weeks. Dawn is having a week off next week (beaches of Cornwall here I come - get ready!!) leaving the very capable Gem in charge of the Makeover Mates empire. www.makeovermates.co.uk

Just to say hello before the weekend

Hi all - we just wanted to say hi before the weekend as we've got another busy one coming up starting today, as in some schools it's teacher training day and some lucky girls are partying today. So this morning we have a pile of our beautiful tissue paper party bags to make and piles of Makeover Mates certificates to print and lots of pressies to wrap for the girls. Also lots of directions to print for locations of houses as all parties are not local. In the middle of all of this Dawn has a lovely Bride, Bridesmaid and Mother of the Bride to do make up for tomorrow morning before turning back in to a Makeover Mate.

Hi All! - Well, we had another great week of partying last week and then a great weekend of partying. Not only did we have some lovely Makeover Mates parties with some great girls it was also my birthday. I've always loved my birthday and seem to love it more each year - I thought it was supposed to be the other way around and birthdays were supposed to get harder to face as you get older - not me, I just get more and more excited!

I also had the wonderful job of being the make up artist for a lovely bride, who got married on Saturday, and her mum and 4 bridesmaids! I do enjoy my sideline as a make up artist www.dawnbell-hughes.com !

Very Important Announcement - please read

Hello all. After a very busy weekend of partying and celebrating Mother's Day (thank you Daniel and Tom for my lovely meal by the way!) we would like to make a Very Important Announcement today.

From now on we will be working in association with Hope House Hospice, or Ty Gobaith as it is also known here in Wales, to help raise much needed funds for their wonderful work. Hope House is a children's hospice that provides support and care for sick children and their families here in the Conwy Valley in North Wales. Hi all - just a quick note tonight as I'm soon off to the land of nod. Look at this fab bag that one of our wonderful Makeover Mates made today - is it not one of the funkiest bags you've ever seen?!! Thanks Sasha for having us do your party - we had a great time and I'm sure you did too.

As well as partying today we held a Mother and Daughter pamper session in Penmaenmawr community centre for Mothers Day - it was a great success with lovely pampering, fresh fruit cocktails, chocolate fountain and much more .....

Hi all, we just want to say thank you to all of our party girls and guests for having us at your parties - we are having a really great time with lots of fun and sparkle. We love doing parties for you.

Amazingly enough, since we gave our van the name DAISY (chosen by visitors to our website) we haven't been lost once so we're presuming that she must love her new name - she's certainly being kept busy on our travels all over the area and beyond. I think she's getting to know her way around.

A busy but brilliant day

Hi all. What a busy day we've had. Today we've had three great parties. This morning I did a pamper party for a small group of lovely girls and we all had a fab time! (wierd partying without Gem but she had some very important kitten babysitting to do). The girls all enjoyed themselves and felt thoroughly pampered before going off ice skating. They must have been the most glam girls on the ice with their lovely nails and sparkly make up. The party girl requested make up and nail varnish to match her ice skates! What a cool girl.

Gem then joined me and we had a wonderful party with some girls who are very much into natural make up and skincare - we made some wonderful products from fruit, honey and oats. It was like a fruit salad party!

This evening we met some mini designers who each made a fab bag complete with feathers and sequins and then sang their little hearts out after having a lovely makeover each.

Gosh we've enjoyed ourselves and hope the girls all enjoyed themselves as much as we did!! Another busy day tomorrow - can't wait.

Exciting Changes!

Well, we've had another great weekend of parting and welcome once more to our lovely new Makeover Mates. We've had a lot of fun too as did our party girls and guests so thank you for having us!

Regular visitors to our website www.makeovermates.co.uk will notice some small changes. There have been no changes to our parties since the introduction of our Spa Parties so don't worry, but you may notice that we have just changed some colours and offer information.

The 2 major changes are:

Book and pay the deposit for your party with 2 months to go and you will get a 10% discount on your party - early bird gets the worm!!
A new Girls Chat section where girls can chat about anything to each other or ask the Makeover Mates questions about anything they like.

Another change will be that our monthly newsletter will be published on the website from now on and not posted out. This month's letter is ready to be posted tomorrow but there are now so many that it will be far better to put future newletters online in the special club area of the website.
